Theodoret of Cyrus
The location will be referred to as the place of downfall and abundant burial, and the earth will be purified. After announcing these events, God instructs the birds and beasts to assemble, as though for a banquet, due to the countless bodies that have perished. He issues this command not as if addressing mere animals, but rather to convey to the rational beings that all this occurs with His allowance. God proclaimed, "Ye shall eat the flesh of bullocks, sheep, lambs, goats, and the finest oxen," in a metaphorical sense. He referred to kings, princes, and their leaders as bullocks, sheep, goats, and oxen, while His subjects were likened to lambs; and He identified their demise with His own, which was carried out according to His will.
