The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Humankind will face destruction, alongside their kin, as they remain steadfast in their transgressions. The baking of the bread conveys two significant meanings: the heaviness symbolizes the famine experienced in Jerusalem, while the impurity of its preparation represents the association with unrighteous nations. Yet, this judgment is just; for God declares that they will persist in their wrongdoing, meaning they will endure consequences for their continued disobedience.
