Theodoret of Cyrus
The glory of the God of Israel approached from the east, accompanied by a voice resembling the sound of many waters. The earth radiated with the brightness of His glory. The vision I beheld echoed the earlier experience I had when I went to anoint the hail. Yet, this time it reflects a different understanding, as the Prophet indicates, revealing that axes were brought forth to strike the inhabitants of the city, and one scattered embers across the entire city. Moreover, he noted a mark placed upon those who opposed the wickedness of the people. It is reasonable to believe that the seventy, grasping the significance of this declaration, interpreted the sign on the foreheads of those spared from the axes' punishment as a form of anointing.

The chariot vision I witnessed resembled that of my prior experience at the river Hobar, and upon seeing it, I fell down in awe. The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the eastern gates. The phrase ‘The Lord entered’ is absent, for God's essence is ineffable; instead, it is expressed that ‘the glory of the Lord entered,’ referring to the manifestation that appeared.
The splendor of the God of Israel was approaching from the east, and the sound of the multitude was like the roar of many waters. The earth radiated with the brilliance of His glory all around. The revelation I beheld resembled the earlier revelation I experienced when I entered to anoint for destruction. The Prophet refers to a subsequent vision in which he witnessed axes being brought forth to strike the inhabitants of the city, and one scattering coals throughout the entire city. He observed a mark placed upon those who stood against the wickedness of the people. It is likely that the seventy, grasping the significance of the statement, interpreted the marking of the foreheads of those spared from the punishment as a form of anointing.

The vision of the chariot resembled that which I encountered at the river Hobar. Upon witnessing it, the prophet declared that he fell down. The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gates of those who look to the east. He did not say, "The Lord entered," because the essence of God cannot be articulated, but he stated, "The glory of the Lord entered," signifying the vision that had manifested.
