Theodoret of Cyrus
It is decreed that the gates on the eastern side shall remain closed for six days each week, but shall be opened for the entirety of the Sabbath. Furthermore, when the priests present their offerings for the high priest, he is to stand at this gate; after the sacrifice is made, he will bow in the vestibule and then depart. Meanwhile, the congregation gathered before this gate shall offer their worship to God both on the Sabbaths and during the new moons. The high priest is responsible for presenting the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, as he is referred to as an elder by the prophet. He is also tasked with counting the number of the priests and instructing them on what offerings are to be made on the new moons.

He refers to the sacrifice of the semidalah, which is translated by the Syrian interpreter as manaah. Additionally, it is commanded that those entering the outer court to worship God must enter through the northern gate and exit through the southern gate, or enter through the southern gate and exit through the northern gate, to ensure a seamless flow of worship without confusion. The presence of the high priest during this time is essential to maintain a spirit of reverence in the worship. On Sabbaths and other holy days, it is mandated that the eastern gate be opened for all to enter. Should the high priest wish to offer a voluntary sacrifice from his abundance on any specific day, he is permitted to open this door, as the offering he presents will carry the same significance as the Sabbath sacrifice. If the high priest allocates a portion of his land to one of his sons, that son will retain ownership for eternity. Conversely, if the land is given to a servant, the servant may possess it only until the year of release, at which point, during the year of the Sabbath, it must be returned to the high priest. This land is designated for one priestly lineage, and it is deemed unjust to deprive children of their inheritance by reallocating land designated for their family. Therefore, the heir to the land belonging to the priests shall be the clan itself.
