In every settlement, your cities will be left in ruins, and your places of worship will be destroyed; your dwellings will be devoured and vanish, your idols will be shattered, and your images will be broken apart. Afflictions will befall you, and I will spare those who survive the onslaught of harsh words. God reveals that those among the Jewish people who repent will vindicate God's righteousness before the nations, as He chastened them among the Gentiles and subsequently brought them back from their dispersion.

And I will leave with you those who have survived the sword among the nations when I disperse you among the lands, and the remnant among you will remember Me in the nations to which they have been taken captive. The Lord spoke to Elijah, saying, ‘I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal’ (3 Kings 19:15), and the apostle Paul affirms, ‘Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace’ (Romans 11:6), which may also pertain to this matter. For even the apostles, being of Israel's lineage and having escaped the sword, were seen to be scattered throughout the lands, preaching the gospel among the nations, and reminding them of God during their captivity.

It could also be stated that some of the Jewish captives were kept for this very reason, to testify of His name among the nations and to proclaim His might. Additionally, from among the heretical nations, those who may have evaded divine judgment and the rebellious faction against God, those scattered in various regions will recall the name of God, prompting repentance and rejoicing that they are captives held by the Church.

In stating, “Ye shall know that I am the Lord,” He necessarily identifies those who will benefit from this promise; for those who have been dispersed due to captivity will find value in this corrective measure. Thus, He continues:
