And may the God, that hath caused his name to dwell there, destroy all kingdoms, and the people that shall put out their hand to resist, and to destroy the house of God, that is in Jerusalem. I Darius have made the decree, which I will have diligently complied with.

Consequently, due to their scorn for Israel, who had been subjected to servitude and exile, and after enduring great hardships and the chains of oppression, they resumed their attacks, inflicting countless miseries and devising various wicked schemes against them, while hindering their efforts to construct the sacred temple and reinforce the city with walls; it was unavoidable that the Lord would be furious with them and hand them over to Israel. Following the finalization of their efforts and the restoration of the temple, having laid waste to all their towns, the Israelites conquered the inhabitants and came to possess immense wealth.
