Moses identifies the lineage of Joktan as situated in the western region of Meshu, likely corresponding to Muse, a trading harbor along the Red Sea in Arabia, and to the eastern area of Sephar, a city surrounded by a series of mountains that were referred to by the Greeks as Climax, meaning staircase. Thus, the descendants of Joktan should be pursued within Arabia.
