Consider Abraham, who triumphed over his adversaries and returned “from kings,” as recorded, yet he refused to claim any possessions from the king of Sodom. Melchizedek blessed him. The ruler of Sodom approached Abraham, asserting as a victor: “Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself.” However, Abraham, wishing to claim nothing as his own, responded, “I lift up my hand to the Lord God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will not take even a thread or a sandal strap from your belongings, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’” Saints do not take delight in worldly wealth. Therefore, by vanquishing both visible and unseen foes and taking nothing from earthly treasures, instead valuing heavenly riches, we are blessed through Christ, the Prince of Peace. We receive this blessing by embracing the sacramental as though it were a divine gift and a guideline for our lives.
