John Chrysostom
Observe that Leah embraced the children born from a servant woman, declaring herself blessed and deserving of respect due to their lineage.
Zelpha also bore another.
וַתֵּ֗לֶד זִלְפָּה֙ שִׁפְחַ֣ת לֵאָ֔ה בֵּ֥ן שֵׁנִ֖י לְיַעֲקֹֽב׃
2 Church Fathers comment on this verse
Observe that Leah embraced the children born from a servant woman, declaring herself blessed and deserving of respect due to their lineage.
The term 'wealth,' represented by the Greek word πλοῦτος, has been erroneously ascribed, as the true meaning of Asher's name is illuminated by the Scriptures, which state, ‘I am happy, and women count me happy.’ Due to the perception of happiness attributed to her, she named her son ‘happy.’ Therefore, aser (אָשְׁרִ֕) signifies ‘happy’ in this context. Nevertheless, in other contexts, due to its dual meaning, it can also denote wealth.
