Jacob then took Bilhah as his wife, and she became pregnant and had two sons, Dan and Naphtali. However, Leah, noticing her own inability to bear children any longer, urged Jacob to also take her servant. When Jacob replied to Leah, saying that she should find solace in her children, Leah retorted that it was unfair to compare one servant to another. She expressed her frustration, stating that if there was wrong done to her through Rachel’s servant, then similarly, payback should be sought through her own. To avoid causing further strife between the two sisters and to restore harmony in his household, Jacob then took Zilpah as well. She too became pregnant and gave birth to Gad and Asher.
