John Chrysostom

Judah, unaware of the situation, honored his commitment and dispatched a goat to Tamar in order to retrieve the pledge he had given her. However, the messenger was unable to locate her and returned to inform Judah that she was nowhere to be found.

Cyrill of Alexandria

He also presents her with a goat, symbolizing the forgiveness of sins, as the goat was sacrificed for transgressions in accordance with the law, representing the absolution of sins.
