John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

He then elaborated on the significance of the seven oxen and ears, indicating that there would initially be an overwhelming surplus in every aspect, which would be succeeded by a great scarcity. He concluded by providing Pharaoh with wise counsel: appoint a man to oversee Egypt, one who would collect resources during the seven prosperous years and ensure that provisions are made so that even in times of famine, there would not be total deprivation.

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

What should we find astonishing initially? Is it the clarity of thought through which he ventured into the depths of truth? Or perhaps the insight that allowed him to anticipate such a grave and enduring hardship? Alternatively, should we focus on his compassion and fairness? Through the former, he took up a significant responsibility and amassed a vast supply of bread; through the latter, he ensured an equitable distribution of resources.
