Communicate to him everything about my honor in Egypt, so that he may offer praise to God for all that has transpired in my time there.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

Joseph's siblings were astonished by everything that came from his lips, leading them to question whether the person speaking was truly Joseph or merely someone adopting his identity. To comfort them, Joseph declared, “Behold, your eyes see the eyes of Benjamin, my brother,” indicating that even if they doubted the accounts they had heard, they could witness him and perceive his genuine remorse. His tears served as a testament to his honesty, and as witnesses, they could confidently relay his message to their father. Should their father remain skeptical, he could place his trust in Benjamin's testimony.
