As the prophetic testament draws to a close, Jacob's discourse transforms; it is no longer filled with fervor, solemnity, or divine magnificence. It resembles a lifeless form left without its spirit. The Lord, who once conveyed His messages through the elder's voice, has now withdrawn His enigmatic utterances: the inspired prophet falls silent, and the fading patriarch begins to speak with weariness: "I implore," were Jacob's final words, "my people; bury me in the cave located in the field of Ephron the Hittite. There Abraham and Sarah lie; there Isaac and Rebekah rest; and there I have interred Leah."
