The Lord declares, "You take pleasure in swiftly moving your feet," indicating a lack of stability and a constant tendency to change. Elijah pointed out that as long as places of worship were present, people would continue to choose their paths (1 Kings 18:21). Thus, they eagerly pursued their own desires without restraint. They were enamored with the worship of idols and did not seek repentance, nor did they find respite from their actions; they were relentlessly devoted to that pursuit, sparing no effort. Observe how persistently he condemns them for their profound moral corruption. This is consistent with what is noted in ancient manuscripts, which suggest that they did not find rest, as reflected in the translation by Blessed Jerome: "non quievit."

The Lord has spoken to His people, stating that their love for wandering and failure to find rest have not pleased Him. For this reason, He will now bring their iniquities to mind and confront their sins. When the people question, "Why do you act like a stranger, a traveler, and a wanderer, abandoning your home?" the Lord responds, "Would you like to understand the reason? Hear this: because they cherished wandering and did not free themselves from the chains of sin or find rest, I too have withdrawn from them, and there is no grace in them from Me.

Therefore, He who has patiently endured with sinners and has hesitated to enact judgment will remember their transgressions and visit them in their afflictions, as if they were ill and unaware of God’s presence, in order that they might cease from sinning. It is important to recognize that within Holy Scripture, there are always those wandering in sin, and it is written to the holy ones along with Moses, 'You shall remain here with Me' (Deuteronomy 5:31). Additionally, it is stated, 'Praise the servants of the Lord who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God' (Psalm 134:1-2).

They were eager to exert themselves, tirelessly walking the path of deception. This is evident from the subsequent words: “And God will not prosper them.” The Prophet declares that the Lord will remember their iniquity and bring judgment upon their wickedness. Additionally, the Lord instructs the Prophet not to pray for them and states that He will not regard their fasting or accept the sacrifices they make. Instead, He will abandon them to famine, disease, and violence. Upon hearing this, the Prophet recalls the pronouncements of false prophets, who proclaim the opposite and assure them of peace and a multitude of blessings. Yet the Lord reiterates to the Prophet that these false prophets speak deceit, fail to convey the divine message, and act not as vessels of grace, but communicate whatever they desire. For He states:
