In all these matters, you will not be transformed, but rather deceived. At that time, they believed they were the greatest, thus he states that he departed from falsehood, for it was indeed a deception.

The punishment endured by some serves as a means of healing for others. When a murderer faces capital punishment, they receive justice for their actions, while society finds a remedy for the wrongs committed. Similarly, when the ten tribes known as Israel were taken captive by the Assyrians and relocated to Media, the two tribes of Judah and Benjamin, who had every reason to fear the same fate and turn wholeheartedly to God, engaged in even greater iniquities than their northern counterparts. They fell into idolatry to such an extent that they erected a statue of Baal within the temple of God, which Ezekiel described as an abomination provoking the Lord's jealousy. He uses the metaphor of two sisters to illustrate that both stemmed from the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The first is labeled as unfaithful, having entirely turned away from God to worship golden calves in Dan and Bethel; the second, although she possessed the Temple and esteemed the true God, gradually imitated her sister’s betrayals, leading to her own treachery. This degradation serves as a foretelling of the heretics, who, with misguided beliefs under the guise of false wisdom, ascend the mountain of arrogance and succumb to carnal desires, compromising their integrity in secret places. When they yield to the adversary for the destruction of their flesh, it is not uncommon for the house of Judah, representing true faith and confession, to be undeterred by their misdeeds. Instead, their ease with sin further contaminates the church, engaging in spiritual immorality with stone and tree as they pursue doctrines that oppose God. Yet, if a church leader seeks to guide the wayward back to righteousness, pruning the corrupt parts of the body and encouraging repentance in those who have strayed, but they persist in their previous transgressions cloaked in the pretense of church doctrine, it can indeed be said that “In all these things, her sister Judah, the unfaithful, has not returned to Me with her whole heart, but only in pretense.” This prophecy took place during the reign of Josiah, the righteous king, under whom Jeremiah began his prophetic ministry.
