He has turned me into a source of mockery among people, and I stand as a witness before them, as Job expresses in Job 17:6. This sentiment is echoed by the blessed Job on behalf of all the faithful. Those who have faced trials, as they truly occur, often find themselves regarded as a target of scorn, since every fool, when intending to curse someone, wishes for their opponent to endure the same temporal hardships that the righteous endure. Consequently, individuals lacking true understanding see the suffering of the righteous as a negative example and perceive their affliction solely as grounds for condemnation, rather than as the glory that awaits them. Thus, it is clear:

As Job senses the inevitability of death and struggles to change the minds of his friends regarding their doubts, he pleads with the Lord to intervene (16:22; 17:1-5). Addressing his companions, Job, with renewed affirmation of his righteousness, asserts their error and acknowledges the proximity of his demise (6-16).
