Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

I have been reduced to dust and ashes, which means I have become despicable in their eyes, as if I were mere dirt. Similarly, Emmanuel (Christ), despite being divine, was deemed unworthy when He took on human form, prompting the wicked Jews to declare, ‘Thou art a man, but thou makest thyself God.’

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

In the meantime, he found himself the subject of mockery among the lowest of men, and yet his trust in the Lord transformed him; what transpired was entirely contrary to what one might have anticipated.
