Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

I have been reduced to dust and ashes, signifying that I am regarded with disdain, as if I were mere dirt. Similarly, Emmanuel, who is Christ, though divine, was deemed insignificant when he assumed human form, leading the unrighteous Jews to declare, "Thou art a man, but thou makest thyself God."

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

At that time, he had become the object of ridicule among the most despicable individuals, and his trust in God had transformed him: the exact contrary of what one would expect occurred in his life.
