One Church Father comments on this verse

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

With the assurance that Job would not dispute the veracity of his assertions, Elihu undertakes a thorough examination of Job's claim that the Lord inflicts punishment without just cause. He demonstrates that such a perspective on God contradicts our understanding of Him as the sovereign Provider of creation. If the Lord were to act with bias or unfairness, there would certainly be chaos within the world, and He would not hold back from confronting those who stray from the path of truth. His all-knowing nature, supreme authority, and compassion for those who suffer injustice affirm His righteousness. Consequently, humanity is called to submit to the divine will. Elihu advises Job to reflect on his thoughts in order to guide him toward correction.
