One Church Father comments on this verse

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

Believing firmly that Job could not dispute the validity of his assertions, Elihu proceeds to carefully analyze Job's claim that the Lord punishes him without cause. He demonstrates that such a view of God contradicts our understanding of Him as the omnipotent Sustainer of creation. If the Lord were to act with favoritism or unfairness, there would undoubtedly be chaos in the world, and He would not hold back evil from those who disregard the truth. Ultimately, His infinite wisdom and might, along with His compassion for those who suffer wrong, affirm His justice. Consequently, humanity must yield to the authority of God. Elihu urges Job to reflect on his mindset to help guide him toward correction.
