Following the curse placed upon Ham due to his son, Noah pronounced a blessing upon Shem and Japheth, proclaiming: "Let God enlarge Japheth, and let him reside in the tents of Shem; Canaan shall serve him" (Gen. 9:27). Japheth flourished and grew strong in his territories to the north and the west. God made His presence known in the home of Abraham, who was a descendant of Shem, and Canaan was subjected to servitude when, during the time of Joshua's son, the Israelites conquered the lands of Canaan and turned them into a tribute.
