John Chrysostom

He also states, ‘ye are witnesses of yourselves, that ye have chosen the Lord to serve him.’ In this context, as noted in Habakkuk 24:15, the act of choosing does not diminish God's glory but rather illustrates the autonomy of righteous individuals. Therefore, allowing the exercise of free will does not detract from God's majesty but rather examines the nature of freedom. It merits mentioning the serpent that Moses lifted up on the cross in the wilderness and the significance of the divine Trinity.

Upon hearing this, the Hebrews vowed to follow the Lord. Consequently, Jesus emphasized, "You yourselves are witnesses to this, that you have chosen to serve the Lord." However, history reveals that Jesus, while encouraging them to refrain from worshipping false deities and imparting to them guidelines for devotion, ensured that these teachings were not merely spoken but were documented for remembrance.
