2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

He led the people of Israel into the Promised Land, much like Jesus Christ leads us into heaven. It was neither the law nor Moses that accomplished this, as they remained outside; the law is incapable of granting access, but grace is what does. Can you recognize how these foreshadowings were established from the very beginning?

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The Israelites crossed the Jordan River prior to the celebration of the Passover; they embarked on this journey on the tenth day, while the Passover feast occurred on the fourteenth day. Similarly, in the renewed understanding, following the baptism of salvation, believers partake of the Unblemished Lamb.
