One Church Father comments on this verse

John Moschus

6th centuryChurch Father

Abba Hagiodulus, while strolling along the banks of the Jordan one day, reflected on the fate of the twelve stones that Joshua had set at the river's bottom, stones selected to represent the tribes of Israel. He wondered what had become of them compared to those that had been taken from the riverbed earlier. At that moment, the waters miraculously separated, revealing the twelve stones. Overcome with awe, he bowed down, offered praise to God, and then left.
