Cyrill of Alexandria

He dismembered the body and sent the parts throughout the tribes of Israel to reveal the sin of the sons of Benjamin against outsiders, their immoral behavior, and the corruption they exhibited akin to the transgressions of Sodom.

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

Upon exiting the house, the Levite discovered her sprawled across the threshold, and he perceived that she must have been too ashamed to raise her face. Compassionately, he sought to console her, understanding that the dishonor she faced was not of her own choosing but rather the result of a brutal affront. He encouraged her to rise and accompany him home. However, there was no reply, prompting him to call out loudly, believing she might merely be asleep. When he ultimately recognized that the woman had passed away, he placed her lifeless form upon a donkey, returned home, and severed her body into twelve pieces, dispatching them to all the tribes of Israel.
