One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The prophetic message warned the Idumeans about the overwhelming disasters to come. This is reflected in the phrase, "And they shall endure, and they shall be poured out." Moreover, the wise David implores, "Remember, O Lord, the sons of Edom in the day of Jerusalem, saying, 'Destroy it, destroy it, even to its very foundations'" (Psalm 136:7). Despite being kin and neighbors, they chose hostility over reconciliation, clinging to their age-old animosity.
