This represents the fresh offering for all peoples. The bitter loaves symbolize the Churches, assembled from both the Hebrews and the Gentiles, who have embraced a blend of the divine leaven. This heavenly leaven has removed the leaven of the world, imparting to them joy and flavor. Within these twelve loaves, we also recognize the Apostles, who embody the bread that sustains the spirit. Furthermore, the imagery of the twelve loaves reflects the twelve tribes, mysteriously gathered around the feast of eternal life.

The twelve loaves represent the yearly cycle of the twelve months.

The Old Testament included offerings of bread, which are now rendered obsolete as part of that covenant. However, the New Testament introduces the heavenly bread and the cup of salvation, which purify both soul and body (cf. Jn. 6:32-35, 4:14; Ps. 115:4). Just as bread represents the physical body, the Word signifies the spiritual soul. This reflects the depth of mystagogical teachings.

The twelve loaves on the table of the tabernacle symbolize the twelve apostles and all individuals who embrace their teachings within the Church. They continuously nourish the people of God with the sustenance of the Word until the fulfillment of time, similar to how the twelve loaves of offering remain present at the Lord's Supper. Furthermore, it is instructed that the loaves should be made from pure, unblemished flour. This indicates that those who proclaim the message of life to others must first demonstrate the fruits of righteousness in their own lives, thereby validating their preaching through their actions. This mirrors the words of Christ, who said of Himself, "If a grain of wheat, when it falls into the ground, does not die, it remains alone" (John 12:24).

Additionally, the arrangement of the loaves into two rows of six signifies unity and fellowship, reflecting Christ's practice of sending His disciples out in pairs to preach (Mark 6:7). This illustrates that the holy teachers of the Church are united in purpose, guided by love and unwavering in their conviction of the truth.

It is also clear that the twelve loaves represent the collective of apostles whom the Lord, in His earthly ministry, chose first to provide spiritual nourishment to all nations. In times of need, when the people were famished in the wilderness, He instructed His disciples, "Ye shall give them to eat" (Matt. 14:16). When five thousand were fed with five loaves, they collected twelve baskets of leftovers (Matt. 14:20-21), which signifies the role of the apostles and their successors in gathering and sharing the truths of Scripture that the people are unable to fully grasp on their own.
