This brings us to another point, as in that same year there was a cancellation of debts and liberation for the Israelites who were held captive. Consequently, God designated it as permissible not to engage in labor during the jubilee. This term signifies freedom and liberation. The fiftieth year is referred to as the jubilee. It is written, ‘You shall number seven seven days, and shall proclaim with a trumpet voice throughout all your land on the tenth day of the month, on the day of purification’ (Leviticus 25:8-9), the day when I extend mercy to you and remove your transgressions; on that day, you shall declare the season of release.
