These statements are straightforward and profoundly relatable in a spiritual context. The holy instructors and all who possess a deep passion for God experience intense anguish upon realizing that Jerusalem, representing the ‘vision of the world’ that the Lord has entrusted to us, lies in devastation due to conflicts and turmoil. They witness the destruction and desecration of the gates of righteousness, which the prophet describes as worthy of being called glory (see Isaiah 60:18), while the gates of death remain unyielding. Consequently, they work tirelessly to bring together the servants of the Word, unified in their aspiration to restore the edifices of faith and virtue that appear to have been laid waste.
