Cyrill of Alexandria

In the same way that He once refrained from allowing them to consume meat for a single day, or even for ten, but rather for a full thirty days—which indicates the length of His displeasure towards them—now He permits those who are inescapably ensnared by earthly delights to indulge in carnal pleasures for an extended period, in accordance with their desires. For it is written, "He gave them over to a depraved mind to do what ought not to be done" (Rom. 1:28).

They inquire, "Who will provide us with meat?" And the Lord will grant you meat to consume... You will partake of it until it becomes repugnant to you, as distasteful as food digested in the stomach. In a profound manner, this symbolizes the cravings of the Hebrew people, a yearning that persists to this day, as they desire to celebrate their Passover despite having witnessed the true Sacrifice at Calvary, which they have turned away from, much like their ancestors refused the manna from heaven. It is essential to recognize that this repulsion manifests in two ways: physical and spiritual; the former harms the body, while the latter harms the soul. Let us be cautious of both; for when the Hebrews consumed the manna without desire, it was beneficial for them.

However, once they began to eat with greed, indulging their cravings rather than fulfilling their needs, what had once nourished them turned detrimental. Thus, countless individuals exhibit extreme folly by overstepping the natural boundaries and indulging in excess. Even if we were to catch every fish in the sea, it would still not quell their appetites.
