But even for a month of days, till it come out at your nostrils, and become loathsome to you, because you have cast off the Lord, who is in the midst of you, and have wept before him, saying: Why came we out of Egypt?

Just as food became detestable to the Israelites, so too will those who are drawn to the flesh and prefer the perishable and worldly over the heavenly sustenance found in God's Word face spiritual demise. This aligns with the scripture that says, 'He that soweth to his flesh shall reap corruption' (Galatians 6:8). The remedy for this affliction is clearly stated: 'do according to the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the desires of the flesh: for the flesh desireth contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit contrary to the flesh: they are contrary one to another' (Galatians 5:16-17).

Therefore, if the Israelites had chosen to find fulfillment in the manna—representing the divine bread of the angels and the sweetness bestowed by the Holy Spirit—they would have not indulged in the cravings of the flesh and would instead reap the rewards of incorruption.

They inquire, “Who will provide us with meat to eat?” And the Lord will give you meat to consume... You will eat it until it is loathsome to you, and it will be as distasteful as food that has been digested. In a profound way, this reflects the enduring desire within the Hebrew people, who still yearn to maintain their Passover feasts even after witnessing the ultimate Sacrifice made on Calvary, discarding it much like their ancestors dismissed the heavenly manna. It's important to recognize that this loathing is twofold: one aspect pertains to the flesh, the other to the spirit.

We must be wary of both; for when the Israelites partook of the manna without desire, it was beneficial to them; but when they indulged in excess, their once-nutritious sustenance became detrimental because they consumed out of desire rather than necessity. Thus, countless individuals act irrationally by overstepping the boundaries set by nature, allowing their cravings to dictate their eating habits. Even if we were to catch every fish from the sea, it still wouldn’t satiate their appetites.
