The Levites are thus designated as collaborators in a certain capacity, serving as attendants to the priestly role; let them be vigilant on behalf of Aaron regarding all matters concerning the tabernacle of meeting and safeguard the people of Israel. This responsibility reflects a role of support. Aaron, along with his sons, is appointed over the tabernacle, and it is instructed that they should oversee all aspects of the tabernacle of meeting, including the inner veil, which symbolizes the sacred and enigmatic elements, and everything customary for those who approach the Divine altar. This imagery unmistakably points to Christ, whom the Father has appointed over His household, with ‘His house being us’ (Heb. 3:6).

Question 4: What roles did the priests fulfill, and what responsibilities were assigned to the Levites? This is instructed by the Lord Himself. It is stated, "The Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Feed the tribe of Levi, and set me before Aaron a priest, and let them serve him: and let his watchmen, and the watchmen of the children of Israel, shoot before the tabernacle of the vision, to do the work of the tabernacle: And let them keep all the vessels of the tabernacle of the vision, and the guards of the children of Israel, and all the works of the tabernacle: and let the Levites be given unto Aaron thy brother, and unto his sons the priests: as a gift these were given unto me of the children of Israel.

And thou shalt set Aaron and his sons over the tabernacle, and let them keep their priesthood, and all that are by the altar, and within the veil: but the foreigner that toucheth them shall die" (Num. 3: 5-10). From this, we understand that the priests were responsible for offering sacrifices, while the Levites served as assistants to the priests and guardians of the Tabernacle. Additionally, Moses later specifies the garments that were to be worn by the descendants of Kohath, Gershon, and Merari.
