Why did God require that certain sacred items be draped in blue while others were adorned with scarlet? The valued vessels were cloaked solely in blue, symbolizing the color of the heavens. Thus, what lay behind the veil was commanded by God to be covered in blue, while what was outside received scarlet coverings and similar adornments. This is because there is no condemnation in heaven; rather, the earth bears the penalty for transgressing divine laws. The scarlet material represents the kingdom, yet the kingdom of God is eternal and unchanging. Therefore, the area outside the tabernacle was draped in both scarlet and blue.

Aware of the Kohathite lineage, God instructed that first the priests should cover the tabernacle and other sacred items with the specified veils upon entering the sanctuary, allowing the children of Kohath to carry them afterward, so that they would not perish upon witnessing the sacred and imperceptible divine presence.
