The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Augustine of Hippo

5th centuryChurch Father

The bow is shattered, signifying the futile attempts of individuals who consider themselves so formidable that they believe they can achieve divine commandments solely through their own might, devoid of God's grace and assistance. They are fortified by those who, in the sincerity of their hearts, plead, ‘Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak’ (Psalm 6:3).
