The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

Justice is a commendable trait for individuals in positions of authority, whereas injustice tarnishes their standing. The Scriptures illustrate this principle: when the Israelites approached Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, seeking relief from the severe measures of his father, Rehoboam chose to ignore the wisdom of the elders. Instead, advised by the younger generation, he declared that he would intensify his father's demands and impose even harsher consequences.
