The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

When he was freed from these tribulations and reclaimed his wives and all the captives, before he could relish this triumph, he was once more overwhelmed by the painful tidings of Jonathan's death. This deeply grieved his spirit, evident in his mourning words: "your love has attacked me, more than the love of a woman" (2 Kings 1:26).
