One Church Father comments on this verse

Fructuosus of Braga

7th centuryChurch Father

No one ought to place trust in past purity, for there exists no individual more virtuous than David or wiser than Solomon; nonetheless, even they allowed their hearts to be tainted by women. To prevent anyone from thinking that their purity is secure in the company of a female relative, they should recall how Tamar was violated by Amnon, who feigned illness. Therefore, both monks and nuns must lead such a pure life that they can bear witness piously not only before God but also in the sight of humanity, providing their communities with an example of holiness.
