Dimitri of Rostov

17th centuryChurch Father

David escapes from his son Absalom, moving "through the stream" filled with tears and grief. In this moment, the malicious Absalom is being chased, just as the sinner is pursued by his Father, who has given him life through water and the Spirit. The Lord also traverses this stream burdened with sorrow, proclaiming, "The diseases of death have overtaken me, and the streams of iniquity have troubled me" (Psalm 17:5). It is due to the torrents of our transgressions that He navigates the river of suffering.
