One Church Father comments on this verse

Augustine of Hippo

5th centuryChurch Father

Consider this important truth: material riches lack meaning without love, which may satisfy those around you, yet the Lord declares, “I will not forsake thee, I will not depart from thee.” You may fear approaching hardships because you have set aside your fortune; rely on Me as your guarantee. This is the voice of the Almighty addressing you. It is not a mere human or an equal, but the Lord Himself who assures you: I will not abandon you, I will not forsake you. If a human made a promise, you would trust it—yet when God pledges, you harbor doubt? He has made a promise, He has inscribed it, He has provided assurance: rest in His peace.
