Equally wondrous and unfathomable are the means by which the wisdom of God has guided, shaped, and drawn the wayward heart towards obedience to His lordship and deliverance from the justice of God through the Redeemer's grace, from the earliest promise to our time. These methods, as outlined in Scripture, can be grouped into those that are enduring and permanently bestowed upon humanity, as well as those that are temporary, used according to the unique circumstances of different nations and individuals.

The foremost of these enduring means is the appeal to understand and observe the commandments of God. What Moses imparted to the Israelites in Deuteronomy stands as an eternal testament, as affirmed throughout the sacred Scriptures: “Put on your hearts all the words which I have declared to you today, and bequeath them to your children, that they may endeavour to fulfil all the words of this law; for it is not nothing to you, but in it is your life” (Deuteronomy 32:46-47). History has shown that when nations fervently seek to comprehend and live out God’s will, He blesses them with capable preachers, leaders, and guides who embody genuine wisdom and fervor for God and His law. Conversely, when nations neglect His word, they often experience a scarcity of authentic preachers and an abundance of false prophets.

This idea is poignantly captured in the words of the prophet Amos: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will send upon the earth a famine, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but a thirst to hear the word of the Lord. And they shall go from sea to sea, and wander from north to east, seeking the word of the Lord, and shall not find it” (Amos 8:11-12). How relevant this prophecy is to our current age! Today, certain Christian nations that have strayed from sound doctrine and the true church are, in their search for orthodoxy, “going from sea to sea.” In their fruitless quest, they may find only reflections of their own views and, in their dismay, begin to forge a new interpretation of the Christian faith.
