One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Following these tribes, he extends his blessings to Joseph, invoking a benediction over both tribes collectively. He speaks of the Lord's favor on his lands, highlighting the splendor of the heavens, the refreshing dew, and the depths of the springs below. He refers to the bounty of the sun’s fruits, the cycles of the months, and the heights of the mountains at the dawn of creation, as well as the summits of the eternal hills. He petitions for the gifts bestowed from above and the produce of the earth that sustains life through the nourishing rains, revitalizing dews, and ripening sunlight, all influenced by the rhythmic changes of the seasons and months. These abundant yields come forth not just from the fertile plains but also from the towering mountains.
