Gregory the Wonderworker

This treasure is fated to decay and be lost, regardless of whether the individual who amassed it has offspring. However, the affluent person, whether he wishes it or not, must descend into the ground and face death just as he once appeared in life.

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

He reflects further on the execution of justice. One should not allow injustice to lead to despair, for the Supreme Judge will hold accountable the lesser judges. Even when faced with tyrannical authority, one should not lose hope, as it is preferable to being powerless. In considering the theme of wealth, the preacher advises that the impoverished individual who expresses discontent over his lack should not envy the affluent, for the poor may experience greater joy in life than the wealthy. Additionally, the rich may not always be able to benefit from their possessions. Thus, the most prudent course of action is to find delight in what God provides, without concern for what lies ahead.
