This transformation occurs by the mighty hand of the Most High, resulting in the one who had recently boasted of dominion over all and arrogantly lifted himself above others suddenly becoming less and weaker than all. Contemplating the magnificence of this divine order, Mary, the Mother of our Lord, proclaims in her Gospel hymn: ‘He showed the strength of His arm; He scattered the haughty in the thoughts of their heart; He cast down the mighty from their thrones, and lifted up the humble; He filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He sent away empty’ (Luke 1:51-53). Additionally, the same might is illustrated by the prophet Isaiah: ‘And Lebanon shall not be turned into a garden, and the garden shall not be honoured as a forest’ (Isaiah 29:17).
