A person’s conscience does not permit a feeling of nearness to God and His divine protection to exist in one who acts against His will. Likewise, it does not allow for the joy and peace that comes from a sense of safety and fulfillment in God to reside in the heart of someone who lives unjustly before Him. Conversely, an individual who perceives their closeness to God, who is confident in His favor and selection, and who recognizes His might and majesty, cannot help but cultivate a longing to serve God and establish a commitment to live in accordance with His commands. Therefore, we observe that this inclination arises in Israel immediately after the initial instance and even in tandem with it, so that their development and maturity support one another.
