In the case of a poor Hebrew girl being sold to a wealthy Hebrew, the intention could only be to establish her as a concubine, as will be illustrated in the ensuing verses. Thus, if she was designated as a concubine, or more accurately, as the secondary wife of her master or his son, she would remain within his household indefinitely. However, if this arrangement did not occur, she would be granted freedom without any cost (v. 11).
