Jerome of Stridon
Consider the commentary on Ezekiel 12:8 (vv. 10-16). This message is directed towards the leader in Jerusalem and the burden of the house of Israel in his midst. Tell them, I am your sign; what I have done will be done to them; they will go into exile and captivity. However, the principal among them will be carried away on their shoulders and will depart in darkness; they will breach the wall to extract him, and his face will be concealed so that he cannot see the land with his eyes. I will cast my net over him, he will be ensnared in my net, and I will lead him to Babylon, to the region of the Chaldeans, yet he will not behold it; he will die there. I will disperse all those around him, his allies and his armies, to every direction, and I will draw my sword against them.

They will recognize that I am the Lord when I cause their dispersion among the nations and scatter them far and wide. Nonetheless, I will spare a remnant from the sword, famine, and plague, so they can declare to the nations they reach all their detestable acts; they will know that I am the Lord. To clarify historically, when others inquire or do not inquire, “What are you doing?” declare, son of man, that this is a burden and a vision against the ruler in Jerusalem, referring specifically to Zedekiah.
