Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

And the Lord spoke to me in the morning, saying, Son of man, has not the house of Israel, the house filled with wrath, asked you, What are you doing? Tell them, Thus says the Lord God. If the house of Israel, the one that incites your anger, questions you, Why are you acting this way? Or, as the Seventy interprets, if they do not even inquire, you should go to them so they may understand the reason for your actions, and respond to them, Thus says the Lord God.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

When these defiant and obstinate individuals inquire about your actions, God instructs you to respond directly, saying, ‘I am a wonder and a sign among you. My actions serve as prophecy, revealing what is to come for the king of Jerusalem and all the rulers.’
