Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

The word of the Lord was given to me in the morning, saying, Son of man, have the people of Israel not questioned you, the congregation incensed? What are your actions? Relay to them, thus declares the Lord God. If, as He states, the people of Israel, the nation that stirs up Your wrath, inquire of you, What compels you to act in this manner? Alternatively, according to the Seventy, even if they do not ask at all, you must proceed so that they understand your intentions, and say to them, thus declares the Lord God.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

When the Almighty declares that these defiant and obstinate individuals inquire about the purpose of your actions, respond clearly: 'I am a wonder and a sign unto you. My actions serve as a prophecy, and through me, I reveal what is destined for the sovereign of Jerusalem and all the leaders.'
