The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Therefore, declare this: Thus says the Sovereign Lord, like the vine of grapes among the oaks of the forest, which I have destined for the flames, so will I deliver to those who inhabit Jerusalem. And I will turn My gaze towards them. He spoke these words metaphorically, drawing from the expression of a fierce and powerful countenance. They will emerge from the flames, for that fire will reveal My presence. When they are rescued from famine, they will suffer blows and be taken prisoner. They will be carried away, for I am the Lord when I turn My gaze towards them.
